Explore Laura’s Home Away From Home in Paris
I’ve always wanted to live in Paris, ever since I did my semester abroad there in college, and also since the time I first fell in love with Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke’s film Before Sunset. The entire film follows the two walking and talking through the city of lights: It’s cinema gold. When I went to Paris in college I was there 6 months and could really immerse myself in the city convincing myself I was French; people would ask me directions before they heard me speak (a sign I of course took to mean that I absolutely looked like a local). Since that semester though, I’ve never been able to truly feel that deep dive again when I visit my favorite city: I love going, but I don’t feel that immersion anymore. Instead…I just feel like a visitor. Now….that was until I discovered La Reserve Hotel and Spa; the hotel that is so much a Parisian home, they even gave me a temporary business card with my name and La Reserve address on it upon arrival.
It can be hard in Paris to find a hotel that somehow walks a tightrope between traditional French elegance/gilded grandeur and subtle understated luxury: La Reserve Hotel and Spa does just that. Between the plush jewel tones, flawless interiors and not-too-nostalgic nod to 19th century Paris (without any of the campiness), the hotel no doubt became my new home away from home. And that isn’t just because they bedecked the bed in rose petals the very first night we were there, or because accents of elephants (my spirit animal) pepper their way through the lobby and rooms; what really sets La Reserve apart from so many hotels is their reverence of privacy and the intimate details that make up this perfectly bespoke experience.
Are you the nostalgic type? Let the plush green of the library (one of the most beautiful I’ve seen) and bar wash over you as you’ll never want to leave for a drink or cafe au lait elsewhere. Also, did I mention each room and suite has a dedicated butler there to see to every detail of your stay?
Do you want to be pampered? The spa at La Reserve is truly the best I’ve been to, you could spend an entire day there and not even realize 24 hours has passed. The indoor swimming pool is surrounded by romantic pillar candles, and is near the hammam, both of which can be used throughout the day for guests without even booking a treatment.
Are you a foodie? The Michelin starred cuisine at this hotel cannot be beat: Most notably breakfast. It is an experience unto itself…leave yourself time in the morning.
More of a bathroom person that a kitchen person? I could have slept soundly in the stand alone tub, ensconced in a sea of Carrera marble.
The one thing to be wary of when staying at La Reserve, is you’ll be in critical danger of not experiencing the city of Paris because you won’t want to leave the hotel. But that seemed like a good problem to have when I was there, or at least it did in my dreamy haze of utter hospitality bliss….
Till next time Paris. Now I have an address.
